Not medical advice
Everything on Fix Your Sleep Disorder — the articles, the calculators, and the symptom questionnaire — is provided for general education only. It is not medical advice, and it is not a substitute for talking to a qualified healthcare professional.
Do not use this site to decide whether to start, stop, or change any treatment.
Our tools do not diagnose
The symptom questionnaire on this site is not a diagnostic test. It is not a validated clinical instrument, it produces no probability that you have any condition, and a result from it means nothing on its own.
What it does is compare your answers against patterns that commonly prompt clinicians to investigate further, and tell you whether the pattern you describe is the kind of thing worth raising with a doctor. That is the whole of what it does.
Only a qualified clinician can diagnose a sleep disorder. In most cases that requires information a website cannot obtain — your medical history, a physical examination, and often an overnight sleep study.
The calculators are arithmetic. They tell you what your own numbers add up to. They do not know anything about your health.
Seek help promptly if
You should speak to a healthcare professional without waiting, whatever any tool here says, if you:
- fall asleep without warning during the day, especially while driving
- have been told you stop breathing, choke, or gasp in your sleep
- act out dreams physically, or injure yourself or a partner while asleep
- experience sudden muscle weakness triggered by emotion
- have sleep problems alongside chest pain, breathlessness, or a change in heart rhythm
Emergencies
If you think you may have a medical emergency, contact your local emergency services immediately. In the United States, call 911.
If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline) in the US, or contact your local crisis service. Do not wait, and do not rely on anything you read here.
No clinician relationship
Reading this site, using its tools, or contacting us does not create any doctor–patient or clinician–patient relationship.
Accuracy and currency
We cite our sources and record when each page was last checked. Sleep medicine changes, links rot, and guidance is revised. We cannot guarantee that every page reflects the current state of the evidence at the moment you read it. Where a page and your clinician disagree, your clinician has your history and we do not — follow them.
If you find something wrong, tell us.
